Husker Racing car
Drive Day 2025
Always Recruiting

A Role for every
skill level

Husker Racing is a 20+ year award-winning team. Building a competitive off-road vehicle starts with strong engineering, but it requires much more. Husker Racing provides a hands-on experience that students cannot gain inside of a lecture hall; this experience serves to help develop students with well-rounded professional skills in various aspects of the engineering industry. Equally important, students actively build non-technical skills vital to professional engineering: program/timeline management, budgeting, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution.

Whether your wheater you are in an engineering field or not, your skills are necessary to get our car across the finish line and we have a place for you on the team. We recruit year round. Fill out the interest form below and a team lead will follow up with next steps.

The Season

What to
Expect

Baja SAE runs on a year-long cycle. Here is how the season breaks down so you know what you are getting into, regardless of when you join.

Time Commitment
Meetings are Tues & Thurs, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Outside of meetings, time varies by subsystem and role. Build season typically requires more hours than design season.
01
Fall Semester
Design Season
Each subsystem researches, designs, and models their components using CAD tools like SolidWorks and ANSYS. Business and media roles handle sponsor outreach, documentation, and content creation. Meetings are held on campus.
02
Spring Semester
Build Season
The designs come to life at our off-campus workspace. Parts get fabricated, assembled, and tested. This is hands-on time featuring welding, machining, wiring, and carbon fiber layup. It is an energetic and rewarding part of the year.
03
Competition Season
Race & Compete
Husker Racing attends at least one of the three national Baja SAE competitions per year. Teams compete in static events like design reports, cost analysis, and presentations, as well as dynamic events like hill climbs, maneuverability, and endurance races.
04
Year Round
It Never Stops
You can join at any point in the year. There is always work to be done. This includes documentation, sponsor communications, social media content, and planning for next season.

No; we recruit year round. We design the car in the fall and build it in the spring, but there is always meaningful work to do regardless of when you join. Fill out the interest form above and a lead will be in touch.

Not at all.

While engineering is the foundation of our work, running a competitive Baja SAE program requires diverse skills. Budgeting, sponsor relations, social media, photography, and project management are all vital to our success. If your major is not listed, we still encourage you to join.

Nothing. Just come ready to learn. Every member was new at some point. We will match you with a subsystem or role that fits your skills and interests, and teach you what you need to know along the way.

Baja SAE is a nationally recognized organization and a strong addition to any resume. Beyond that, you will gain real hands-on experience you cannot get in a classroom. This includes designing parts with FEA software, managing a team budget, running a sponsor pitch, or building content for a national competition audience.

Business students help manage our budget, coordinate with sponsors, handle procurement, and support project timelines. Media and journalism students run our social media, document the build season through photo and video, create content for sponsors, and help tell the Husker Racing story to a broader audience. These roles directly impact how the team operates and competes.
